Iván Martínez es historiador y wikipedista. Actualmente es oficial de Incidencia de la Red por la Defensa de los Derechos Digitales (R3D) y presidente de Wikimedia México A.C., representación local de Wikimedia Foundation, dueña de Wikipedia. Conduce el programa Moebius909 en Ibero 90.9. estación de radio pública de la Universidad Iberoamericana de Ciudad de México. Ha sido entrevistado por los principales medios de su país y otros internacionales como el South ''China Morning Herald'' o ''Radio Amherst Internacional''. Como conferencista ha impartido charlas relativas al conocimiento y la cultura libre en quince estados de México y en unas 50 instituciones educativas y culturales. Ha participado en eventos internacionales relacionados al movimiento Wikimedia en Francia, Alemania, Polonia, Israel, China, Argentina, Chile y Reino Unido, en donde ha brindado cinco conferencias sobre sus proyectos.
