Self-portrait

Description
Sursiendo is a civil association composed of a collective of activists, educators, artists, designers and managers dedicated to the defense of the commons, the creation of emancipatory content and the construction and/or participation of the everyone in spaces of reflection around social problems, in order to actively contribute to the collaborative social transformation from Chiapas, Mexico.
The activities of Sursiendo began in 2011 thanks to a team of collaborators that had been part of social movements, as well as social management, design and communication. The Commons that are promoted by the collective are of three types: natural, cultural and social.
The Commons, or public goods, is understood as a way of commonly managing tangible and intangible assets that belong to everyone but to no one in particular. Common goods can be created by collective participation and it is necessary to preserve its existence as well as to ensure that everyone may have access to them, ensuring protection from destruction or privatization.
The cultural goods promoted by Sursiendo include music, film and visual productions. In the case of the natural assets, special attention is given to medicinal plants and the knowledge about them, the rethinking of the use of metals, or the import of corn as the main source of food. The Commons also include the internet and its social governance as well as the social communication.
The site has a repository of reference materials for a better understanding of free software, free culture, or hacker ethics, as well as concepts relevant in matters of cooperativism. The main topics of reflexion are knowledge, democracy, state, capitalism, migration, economic systems, common goods and communities.
Sursiendo manages and organizes information activities, meetings, workshops, consultancy, or consultancies. It also provides support in matters of editorial design, web and publications.
