Self-portrait
The World's Women On-line! is an electronic art networking project originally established to be presented al the United Nations Forth World Conference on Women on Beijing, China in 1995. Utilizing the Internet as a global exhibition format, this site focuses attention on the vast resoruces of women's experience and culture. Currently, The World's Women On-line! shocases imagery by over 1000 professional artists from 64 countries. This site bridges language barriers through art imagery; and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration between technologists and artists.
Since 1995, the number of artists and countries represented has doubled necessitating a change in format. From a simple first generation web site The World's Women On-line! has been transformed to a searchable destination. Visitors to the site can now locate imagery by artists, country and medium. Over the years the sites has gained recognition and opportunities for the participating artists including: solo and groups exhibitions; publication of imagery in books, catalogs, magazines and other web sites and gallery representation. Requests for joining The World's Women On-line! are reviewed by our curatorial stuff.
