Es por tal motivo que Primary Sources on Copyright creó un archivo con documentos que dan testimonio de estas etapas para que la gente pueda conocer y comprender dicha transformación. La selección de documentos se lleva a cabo a través de una curaduría que comienza desde la invención de la imprenta en 1450 y muestra documentos variados como los privilegios de impresión en Venecia 1469 o derechos de autor en Francia 1971.Los documentos se pueden buscar por fecha, lugar, palabra clave, editor, autor, lugares de referencia, instituciones, legislación o bien casos identificados, y están seleccionados bajo tres tipos de criterios. El primero de ellos refiere a los que hacen interpretación alternativa a la historia del copyright. Mientras que el Reino Unido y Los Estados unidos tienen una aproximación utilitaria de los derechos, Francia y Alemania se centran más en el autor. Los documentos alternativos serían los que contradicen estas principales concepciones.En el siguiente criterio se encuentran aquellos documentos que ilustran la interacción de las leyes de copyright con el desarrollo comercial y estético, o bien de cómo la ley afectó directamente prácticas o circunstancias sociales. La tercera categoría incluye documentos que evidencian influencias entre las jurisdicciones, y que muestran que las naciones no tenían sistemas herméticos, por ejemplo, los privilegios venecianos que constituyeron un modelo de sistema de licencias en Francia, Alemania e Inglaterra.
