Description
CodeandoMéxico A.C. is a nonprofit organization hosting projects improving or solving civic problems in Mexico by designing strategies through social involvement and use of technologies. This initiative was started in 2013 by members of Cívica Digital.
Through the platform citizens can propose problem solving projects, structure around civic values, planning, quality of life and cohabitation. The proposals are described as “challenges” on topics such as transparency, data access, traffic, road planning, transportation and pets. Many challenges are still being worked by the community, addressing different issues, such as lack of water, immigration, violence, transportation, human rights and education.
“Hay Salida” is an app helping women and children victims of violence. “Red de Mercados” helps locate the nearest markets and supports local merchants. “Cyberbullying” is a project helping children and teens avoid bullying online. “De aquí y de allá” is a project helping identify deported immigrants on their way back home.
The platform allows users to launch their own challenges following a protocol requiring to define the problem at hand and the funds available while providing crowdfunding options. One way of getting feedback is opening the project up to the tech and local communities for ideas and proposals.
