Description
The Chopo University Museum started construction of its Media Library in 2006 with the purpose of cataloguing, preserving and promoting the museum’s activities and cultural outreach programs, as well as building a new audience online. On May 2011, the Media Library was launched on the museum’s official webpage.
The project was advised by the University Center for Library Technologies Research and the Department of Communication and Information Technology at UNAM. The library’s construction was assisted by the National Council for Culture and Arts with a five million peso contribution.
The Media Library is comprised of more than 25,000 documents in several formats, from far back as the end of the 19th century, including historical records, such as pamphlets, photos, videos and interviews advertising the museum’s activities. The archive’s contents can be browsed and filtered by title, author, topic, subject and year.
The Media Library also provides access to the museum’s art collection, comprised of 313 digitized pieces detailed with information on each work and its author. The artwork available can be browsed by author, title, technique and year, or in catalogue format.
The Museum’s Information Center, along with the Media Library, the Documentation Unit and the Library provide tools and services useful to researchers, artists, students, the general public and anyone wishing to browse the Museum’s documentary archive online or in person.
