Self-portrait

Open Currency is a common Standard for the numerous community currencies developing across the world. By using a reliable and documented metals standard, communities and individuals alike can create an unlimited variety of unique medallion designs without affecting interchangeability (http://opencurrency.com/active-projects/).

The American Open Currency Standard is a temporary bridge between the world of government-imposed fiat currencies and a free-market system where commodities and other stores of value are actively traded in the Marketplace. It is our ultimate goal to see goods and services once again priced in ounces, grams or grains alongside variable “paper” prices. When this is done, we will know our mission is successful (http://opencurrency.com/the-standard/).

Let’s face it: since the beginning of time, every paper FIAT currency has failed. The Federal Reserve Note, once regarded as the world’s “reserve” currency, is dying. While on it’s death bed, it robs We The People of our wealth through inflation. No one is going to fix this for you: it’s time for you to do something about it (http://opencurrency.com/about/history/dying_dollar/).

Description

Since 2008, the American Open Currency Standard (AOCS) has been working on creating, supporting and using community/local currencies within and outside the United States, coined mostly in silver but also gold and copper, advocating the use and exchange of “honest money” based on precious metals, instead of paper money dependant on government regulation.

Robert Gray started the AOCS in 2007 as a non-profit organization registered in Texas in opposition to fiat money, currency established by government regulation. Its purpose is encouraging the use of metal currency over paper money, since the value of paper money is set by centralized banks and the foreign exchange market, while the value of metal coins is never lost nor does it depend on the inflation and deflation of paper money. The project’s goal is to offer a standard value for different community currencies in order to strengthen the local economy away from a state standard based on borrowing and indebtedness. In order to achieve this, it helps producers/consumers learn and practice the principles of honest money, community/local currency, bartering and product banking in their communities.

AOCS offers tools to create private voluntary barter currencies based on the equivalence of 1 oz of 9.99 pure silver to $50 USD. The AOCS designs currencies and medals for communities, charity centers, businesses and individuals, which can be acquired as a collection or an investment. Among its coin collection, there are several designs, the most popular of which are: Cannabis, Deluminati, Free Market Heroes, the Texas Republic, Tyrannicide and North American History Heroes.

Community trade coordinators are charged with facilitating the conversion from official paper money to community currency and expanding the network of merchants accepting AOCS. They also have authorized distributors carrying the newly minted community currencies. Some distributors are: Illuminati Coins, Cannabis Coins, the Silver Kruger, Crow Currency, Silver Bullets Silver Shield. Customers can locate the associated businesses at the AOCS Marketplace.
