The Laboratorio para la Ciudad (Laboratory for the City) is Mexico City’s new experimental office for civic innovation and urban creativity, the first city government department of its kind in Latin America. The Lab is a space for rethinking, reimagining, and reinventing the way citizens and government can work together towards a more open, more livable and more imaginative city.

Description

“Lab For the City” (Laboratorio para la Ciudad) is a project founded and led by Gabriela Gómez Mont, started on February 12, 2013 by decree of Mexico City’s Mayor, Miguel Ángel Mancera Espinosa. The Lab’s goal es to create a dialogue between the government and its citizens for the development of creative solutions to specific issues, using technology and social innovations. The Lab seeks for people not to just have an opinion, but to also actively participate in developing solutions with ideas, proposals and projects related to their environment. Calls for submissions to workshops, conferences and seminars related to the creative, maker and social innovation industries can be found on the project’s website.
