Description

Defense Distributed (DD) is an open-source organization dedicated to the design of firearms, whose files are shared openly on the Internet to be downloaded and materialized in 3D printers. DD intends to democratize the manufacture of technology and fight the monopoly on the use of weapons by government or crime.

DD was founded in 2012 by Ben Denio and Cody Wilson in Little Rock, Arkansas, to create a political and legal vehicle to demonstrate and promote the subversive potential of publicly available 3D technologies to defend the human and civil rights to possess arms stipulated by the Constitution of the United States and affirmed by the Supreme Court of the United States.

The Weapon Project wiki was the creation of files for 3D printing the first "Liberator" gun. In 2013 the files were released. This action received legal response from the State Department that confiscated the first 3D printed gun. The official DEFCAD publication site contains the files for downloading the AR-15 and the first printed magazine for the AK-47.

The corporation is organized and operated exclusively for scientific, religious, literary or educational purposes and has been financed by private donations.
