Description
Time Notes New Money System is an economic system where time is the unit of measure and exchange. This platform offers users a range of services to save, negotiate or recover time.
The project was created in 2004 by Gustavo Romano, conceptual artist whose work addresses issues related to economy and time, in actions, installations, net art, video and photography. In 2009, he launched Psychoeconomy!, a discussion platform on the financial crisis and the conventional monetary systems. The project was launched in Berlin, Karl Marx street, where passers-by expressed their opinion about this system. It has been replicated in several cities such as Buenos Aires, Lima, Puebla, Mumbai, Madrid, Sevilla, San José, or Mexico City. Offices have been stablished in these cities for time purchase, sale, loan and reimbursement of lost time.
To obtain a reimbursement of lost time users log in the database and specify how much time they've lost and for what reasons. The database make available an archive of 'losses of time', ranging from romantic relationships, formalities, heavy transit, or work, among others. This losses of time vary within a wide range, from minutes to years. Individuals may request the reimbursement of their time and Time Notes gives them in exchange time tickets corresponding to the amount of time lost.
A credit card can be used to acquire loans of time. Users share their deferred dreams and are given a card with the amount of time necessary to fulfil them. Not being possible to accumulate time, the credit starts to diminish as soon as the card is delivered. In the exchange offices, customers can go to exchange their tickets of time for something that they consider relevant.
