yohaig.ngDaily Times publisher, Mr. Fidelis Anosike has lauded Vanguard newspaper for being Nigeria’s number one on-line news platform, saying that the newspaper should, nevertheless, not lose sight of its heritage as an offshoot of the country’s oldest surviving newspaper, Daily Times.

Talking during an interactive session with Vanguard newspaper management at the business’s corporate headquarters in Lagos, Mr. Anosike said those newspapers that gained from the old Daily Times should give towards ensuring the continuing survival and profit of the brand.

Anosike, who said that the new management was laying a solid basis for sustained growth of the newspaper said:

In terms of the company, we've laid a sound foundation that can prolong this paper for the next 90years. But the thought is now how would you build it to profitability to the glory of the people that assembled the enterprise."

On Miss Nigeria, she said: "The advantage of having a 90-year old paper like Daily Times is that you've got an association that knows the history of the nation. We are going to have a library where anyone that needs to research the history of the state can come to. That's part of the initiation we're bringing because it is linked to Nigeria heritage and ’s history."

Robbers assault Vanguard newspaper publisher Sam Amuka by The Nation Newspaper

Suspected armed robbers yesterday invaded the Lagos house of Vanguard publisher Sam Amuka, injuring him and carting away cash and some things.

The raid was the second on Amuka’s house in about two years.

The invaders supposedly strike the octogenarian with an iron rod. He was rushed to some hospital that was private.

Ten suspects arrested in connection with the assault are being quizzed at the Special Anti-Robbery Sqaud (SARS), Ikeja.

Detectives were said to be screening all the the estate’s security employees, national staff as good as Amuka’s private guards.

While the Secretary General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, described the action of CAN as malicious, MSSN National and Lagos State Amirs (Presidents), Mallam Jameel Muhammad and Saheed Ashafa respectively tagged it an effort to cause violence.

They talked at the Grand Finale of the 14th Biennial Qur’an Memorisation Contest organised by MSSN, Lagos State Area Unit in honour of late Alhaji AbdulLateef Adegbite in Lagos. Oloyede accused CAN of plotting to make Muslims illiterates in the state by supposedly requesting them to not cover their heads. He said I don't see how hijab being worn by a Muslim woman is offensive to others. If our sisters in the catholic could go out in their own dress and it is not offensive to Muslims, then they (Christians) should bear Muslims also.

"I believe we are having anti religion inclination. I will be aware that there is a case against National Youth Service Corps by a catholic woman who was requested to wear what wasn't acceptable to her. So, it is not just Muslims. As far as NSCIA is worried, we cannot because we are Nigerians be de- islamised." Oloyede said neither Christians nor Muslims have the right to resort to violence in a bid.



onblastng.comOn his part, Mallam Jameel Muhammad, the National Amir of MSSN, urged Muslims in Osun State to resist the ‘provocative’ actions of CAN, saying, "We don’t must be violent with them. We should be law abiding and not be diverted with statements which might be capable of causing chaos." He also faulted the determination of some judges to refer Muslim pupils in Lagos State to some particular court for constitutional interpretation on whether or not Hijab should be permitted in Lagos State public schools.
